Cafergot

Cafergot

Cafergot is prescribed by doctor and used for therapy of some cases of migraines. This drug may cause a severe damage to your health if combined with some other medications as HIV protease inhibitors and macrolide antibiotics. Their simultaneous usage may also lead to death.

Two main components of the drug are ergotamine and caffeine. They work together by constricting blood vessels in the lining of the head, which helps to decrease the pain from migraine headaches. In this case caffeine acts as an additional supporter for ergotamine by providing its absorption into blood. The pills should be taken after the first sign of pang. This way the Cafergot will work more effectively. Usually it takes one-half hour for the tablet to work. Otherwise the extra dose may be taken but not earlier than 30 minutes after the previous one.

Sometimes your doctor can prescribe you Cafergot for treatment of other diseases. Do not share your medicine with someone who can even have the same or similar symptoms. Do not stop taking the drug without previous consultation with your health provider. Specify exact list of medications that may interact with Cafergot and threaten your health.

The drug may be taken with or without food. Talk with your doctor if your diet includes or is going to include grapefruit: it may affect the amount of Cafergot in your blood.
